The Shimano SG-3R40 Nexus Rear Hub for Roller Brakes offers a rugged and simple way to add gears to a bike. This bolt on hub features three internal gears for up to a 186% spread of the gear ratios, giving you options for what the road throws at you. As for when it comes time to slow down, this hub can be either laced to a rim brake compatible rim, or there are splines on this hub that will accept a roller style brake for a clean, reliable, and low profile brake.
