I've ridden a fair share of bikes from vintage to modern, high end to downright trash, and this bike put a serious smile on my face. The steel frame is rugged, but there's a subtle sense of refinement to that 'Natch' tubing; not saying it "planes", but it responds quite well. This bike is like a mix of a short chain-stay Rivendell Atlantis (MUSA) and a Black Mountain Cycles Monstercross with cable actuated disc brakes. Basically, it's fun, comfortable, capable, and can carry a load. The stock knards do a fantastic job on gravel and light single-track, but you can definitely notice the drag on tarmac. The Sram Apex 1X11 groupset and Avid BB7 brakes are no frills, but robust and do exactly what they're supposed to do once tuned and setup properly. The wheels are basic and nothing special, but seem decent for the price of the complete bike. There have been many discussions over the years about the rear drop-outs being a PITA, but they're honestly not a problem, especially if you snag a Shimano XT rear skewer or the Surly Monkey Nuts. Nothing about this bike is on the cutting edge of current bike technology, but there are so many options for customization or tinkering. It's such a solid platform for straightforward fun bike riding that it would be stupid to pass up. If you're looking for just one bike for riding road, gravel, commuting, and/or light single-track, this will be the perfect fit. If you're looking to add another bike to your stable to shake things up a bit, this will also a perfect fit.
Things to consider: Out of the box the bike required a good going-over. Needed to add grease, properly torque bolts, make various adjustments to drive-train, etc. If you don't have the appropriate tools, plan to take it into a reputable shop. Stock saddle is garbage, but that's typical.
