Surly Moonlander Fat Tire Mountain Bike Description:
The Surly Moonlander Fat Tire Mountain Bike is a trail ready mountain bike that has a unique drivetrain and clearance for some incredibly fat tires. At the heart of this bike is Surly's rugged full chromoly frame and fork that creates a solid, stiff foundation that will also take the sting out of trail vibrations. The most unique feature of the frame is an integrated mount for Pinions revolutionary internally geared gear box that puts the main weight of the gears low in the frame so it can actually help with cornering stability, while leaving plenty of ground clearance so the bike will not get hung up on logs, rocks, or other trail obstacles. The rear triangle of the frame and the fork have been designed to fit the same 12mm x 197mm thru axle hubs which will help create room for ridiculously wide 24 x 6.2" on 100mm wide rims.
As previously mentioned, this bike is equipped with a 9 speed internally geared, frame mounted gear box by Pinion. The gearbox features an incredibly rugged powder coated magnesium housing that creates a water tight enclosure for the running gear, and as for the gears themselves, the 9 gears are spread out over a wide 568% range, giving the rider everything from a super low granny gear for the steepest of inclines all of the way up to comfortable high end gear for rapid descents. The calling card of the internal gearbox is the simple single chainline that reduces the wear on the chain, chainring, and rear cog, and it requires very little maintenance overall especially compared to a conventional derailleur based drivetrain. 100mm wide tubeless ready Surly Clown Royal rims shod with Surly Molenda 24 x 6.2" tires provide incredible grip and help this bike float over frozen or broken terrain, and when it is time to slow this rig down, hydraulic Tektro brakes provide ample braking power without stressing the riders hands. And when it is time to dress up this bike with accessories, this bike includes a wide variety of braze-ons and mounts that will allow for racks, fenders, and bottle cages so this bike can be kitted up to be ready for anything so you can boldly explore where you have never explored before.
