Lezyne HP Drive Pump (Black) (High Pressure) (M)

Lezyne HP Drive pump with ABS flex hose (model No. 1-MP-HPDR-V2M04, EAN product code 4712805976645) from Nashbar in June 2024. 91g; the mounting bracket adds another 11g. Packaging says 120 psi / 8.3 bar but tested it on a 700c/28mm tire and only got to 70 psi. That took 120 strokes at which point I ran out of juice. Still, 70 psi is enough to get to a real pump. It helped to wear riding gloves while pumping.

One reads about the design feature whereby the Presta end of the hose, threads, not onto the valve barrel, but onto the valve core. It can happen that, when you unscrew the hose from the valve after use, it will unscrew the valve core and release all the air you just pumped in. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jprjRIq5PUg for such a complaint. This happened to me the first time I tested it, but I'm sure the valve core wasn't firmly seated. Screwed the core back in, tightened it a bit, rubbed just a hint of lube on the core threads, and problem solved. It also helped not to screw the hose onto the core with full force - use just enough to make a seal. Some of the Lezyne models have a valve core tool built into the hose - a nice feature. One could carry a valve core tool in one's kit but a better solution might be to use a Schrader adapter and the Schrader end of the hose. One should probably carry an adapter anyway since gas stations never have Presta pumps. Nice unit, gets a "5" despite the valve core business.
