Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

The bike is advertised as $500 value, but it cost me less than $300 including shipping. No doubt in my mind that it is a $500 value. The ride is so smoooth that it is more like gliding. I am completely satisfied.

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

After 1,000 miles on the bike, this bike is handling better than my expectations. The assembly out of the box was fairly straightforward. the back rim is already attached to the frame and you just need to put on the front rim and the handlebar stem. This may look backwards to some other reviewers but, it is assembled correctly. The overall factory adjustments to the brakes are fairly well done.

The frame is wonderfully built. the 24 speeds has a wide range and i still have a few gears to grow into at the high end. I have taken it on long 60 miles rides with no issues. I have pedaled with two other flat bar bikes in the last decade and this bike is on par with the other two that costs much more money.

The seat is not comfortable and I replaced it after 100 miles of trying to break it in. The tires lasted 900 miles and that is comparable with a basic road tire in my area. I replaced the bare bones pedals after they got to banged up.

Overall, this bike is a very great deal.

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

Purchased a couple of these for my wife and myself (sizes 17" and 21"). Took six days to arrive, unpacked it and got down to work right away. Assembly was straightforward, stem piece on flat bar was backwards but easy to figure out. Took it for a spin and it felt very solid. Front breaks will definitely need adjustment but nothing that an you-tube video can't help you with. That's exactly the bike both my wife and I needed, and now we're ready to hit rougher terrain. We also own Nashbar carbon bikes for our sprint triathlons and like to save them for nicer roads. Make sure to take advantage of the amazing (21%) discounts. A great bike all around!

I love my Nashbar flat bar road bike

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

I had been using my 20 year old Gary Fisher mountain bike for road riding with semi-slicks, but the weight and the heavy front shock were making it hard to do long rides over the hills in my area. I shopped around for a couple of months, keeping my eye on this bike and reading every review I could find. I finally pulled the trigger when a sale plus promo code brought it down to a ridiculous deal! I would have caved within a week and bought it anyway. I've ridden it about 75 miles over my first week.
UNPACKING: Unpacking and assembly took about 30 minutes, and I went slowly and carefully. I've done some basic maintenance before, but not a lot. The bike was well packaged to protect it during shipping.
ASSEMBLY: I had to attache the front wheel using quick-release, loosen stem clamp to rotate handlebars 180 degrees, attach stem to headset, attache front brake cable, attach pedals, attach seatpost with quick-release (seat was already attached to seatpost), attach reflectors, inflate tires (80 psi).
ADJUSTMENTS: Out of the box the only things I had to adjust were the rear brake and the saddle position -- I slid it back the whole way. After about 50 miles the front derailleur needed a tweak, but there are handy barrel adjusters both on the shifters and on the cable housing on the down tube. This bike was better tuned out of the box than a leading brand bike that I test-road at a local bike shop.
SIZING: I'm 5'11" with a 33" inseam and the 21" frame is right for me. I'm certainly a little more stretched out than on my mountain bike, but it feels right.
VALUE: The money I saved over a big name brand allowed me to get bottle cages, Shimano clipless pedals, a frame pump, tubes, and steel core tire levers and still have a couple hundred dollars left over.
SUMMARY:The Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike is exactly what I was looking for. Climbing is easier which gives me the confidence to ride farther. The flat bar puts me in a position to keep an eye out for traffic and is comfortable and the bigger frame lets me stretch out for better aerodynamics on downhills. I was pleasantly surprised to find the ergonomic grips on the bike when I unpacked it. They are much more comfortable than what I was used to. I'll likely add some bar ends because I like being able to change hand positions. The seat is fine with padded shorts. When I bought the bike I knew I could switch over a gel seat from another bike, but I'm not going to bother. Others have also commented that the brakes are poor, but I have no issues with them.

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

Bought the bike as a commuter/ get around town bike. I live in hilly Seattle and this bike is great- large ring for the downhills, and granny ring for the uphills. I was a little skeptical about the flat bar at first, but love it, especially while wearing a backpack. I've commuted on down handles for years and my wrists hurt after long rides with the backpack. The handles are very comfortable, with a lot of meat where my palms rest.

I got the bike assembled in about 25 minutes, including a bunch of little adjustments. Still making little tweaks as I go, but so far no complaints.

Other people cited the brakes as being an issue. I have no problem locking up the wheels at any time, so I don't know what the concern is. The components on this are the same as bikes retailing for twice as much, and the look is awesome! All black wheels and a solid green frame, no decals- looks like a sweet custom bike that I spent months building myself. Don't tell anyone my secret :)

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

Bought this for my young teen son to train for a bike trip. He has logged over 800 miles in last 3 months. We replaced the seat and toe clips early on. Seat was awful, and plastic clips didn't hold foot. Bike handles well and is easy to maintain. Minimal adjustment out of the box. Only complaint, besides seat, is weight. May consider a carbon fork to shed a few pounds. Price is excellent compared to name branded bikes. Very pleased overall with Nashbar.

Good starter bike for commuting. You can upgrade the components you want without having to buy/pay for all upgrades. Some complain this is heavy but I can carry it up a flight of 20 stairs after a 6 mile commute which includes a HUGE hill. Customer service was prompt and courteous in sending our a wheel which was damaged in transit.

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

Got the 17" for my wife who is 5'5". I'm 5'10" and its too small for me. She didn't like the women's mixte frame. It fits her well and she used it for her first triathlon and for a short commute to work a few times a week. The seat was pretty uncomfortable for me and for her. The front derailleur needed a little adjustment along with both sets of brakes. The wheels didn't need any adjustment. The tires are almost slicks with minimal tread pattern. Might switch the tires soon to something with some more tread and a little wider for the gravel paths. Rides pretty smooth and much faster that her giant cypress cruiser. The only item missing was screws for the white/red reflectors but I had extras.

Comments about Nashbar Flat Bar Road Bike:

The components are of decent quality Names include Shimano and KMC. The bike is a definite good value for the money. I needed to contact customer service to have a wheel replaced which was damaged in transit. Excellent service and received the replacement promptly. The brake pads could be better so I replaced them with kool-stops. Pedals a little narrow but good quality; I replaced with platform pedals for my wide feet. The tires grip well but do not have much tread. Will need to replace rather quickly. Out of the box it rides well and is sort of a blank canvas on which to customize your ideal ride. Do yourself a favor and pay your local bike shop to assemble your bike and check all the fastener torques. You'll be glad you did. Once the bike is broken in its an absolute joy to ride. Smooth is a word I would use to describe it. Gets the killa' looks wherever I go.
